The Laredo Flags found their way into the league in the spring of 1934 in the largest growth period of the game's history. They were among 5 other teams inducted between a two year span. Laredo, Texas is situated on the north end of the Rio Grande on the border. During the war for Texas' independence they had men on horseback that would patrol the land near the border. They were called the Flag Men. Since the war's conclusion, Laredo is the only team in the league where fans can share the border. The Flags have a strong Mexican following and is considered the new and better futbol in this region. During game time a ferry ride transports fans back and forth to the arena every 20 minutes. The Flags play in the Rio Grande Flag Men Arena located on the north bank looking on the Rio Grande river facing Mexico as a gesture of friendship.
